History hints

 

  • in 1960, under the guidance of arch. Ascanio Damian, the plans are drawn up for the 1st pavilion (main dome);
  • in March 1961 the National Economic Exhibition is authorized to take place on the Băneasa racecourse territory, on a surface of 460.000 sqm;
  • in April 1962 it is inaugurated through a congress, gathering over 11.000 people. The pavilion is designed according to most modern tendencies in Europe, becoming a trademark for the modern capital;
  • in 1963, the Exhibition Office is set up within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania;
  • in August 1964 the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements is organized - the first showcase of Romanian economic performance;
  • in October 1970 the Bucharest International Technical Fair –TIB takes place for the 1st time on a total surface of 70 000 sqm, with over 1000 exhibitors from 30 countries, out of which, 18 official participations. Until 1981, TIB will take place every two years;
  • in January 1974 within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, the Fairs and Exhibition Enterprise is set up.
  • in May 1974 TIBCO - the International Fair for Consumer Goods takes place for the 1st time in Bucharest on a 16 500 sqm surface, with exhibitors from 11 countries;
  • in 1981 TIB and TIBCO merge, and the event is named TIB;
  • in 1990 36 participations to external fairs were organized in countries from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Central and South America and Australia. Starting that year, they have implemented their own specializing and diversification program for the organized fairs;
  • in 1991, TIBCO and TIB are organized separately and, for the first time, in the context of market economy;
  • December 1991 – the Fairs and Exhibition Enterprise becomes ROMEXPO S.A., a stock company with private capital, the main shareholder being the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania.
    26 participations to external fairs are organized in that same year;
  • in 1993, ROMEXPO S.A. becomes an UFI (The Global Association of the Fairs and Exhibitions Industry) member, through the certification of TIB, and later, of 2 other events: TIBCO and the ROMMEDICA - ROMPHARMA – ROMCONTROLA group;
  • the ROMEXPO Conference Center starts functioning in October 1994;
  • during 1995 – 2000, ROMEXPO S.A. organizes about 30 events yearly in their own exhibition center and over 20 participations to external fairs;
  • during 2000 – 2006, ROMEXPO is represented in the Managing Board of UFI;
  • June 2003 - ROMEXPO becomes a CEFA (The Central Europe Fair Alliance) member;
  • in 2004 ROMEXPO becomes a CENTREX (International Exhibition Statistics Union) member;
  • in 2006 ROMEXPO is represented in the CEFA managing board;
  • in 2007 ROMEXPO becomes an EURASCO (The European Federation of Agricultural Exhibition and Show Organizers) member
  • in 2008, 2 new pavilions were started, in order to add 32 000 sqm to the existing 25 000 sqm indoor and 9 000 sqm outdoor area; the new pavilions will also include 2 conference halls;
  • at present, the ROMEXPO portfolio comprises over 40 fairs and exhibition.
